Educators and administrators around the world are excited about the benefits that global education can offer their students. Teachers everywhere are being encouraged–or required–to include globally based projects and international connections in their curriculum. So how can teachers and their students begin to reach out across the globe?

By participating in Blue Planet’s vibrant professional development workshops that teach educators how to introduce global education to their students.

All our workshops are now moving to an online basis and will feature downloadable resources and lesson plans that can be immediately replicated in the physical or virtual classroom. Details are coming to this page very soon.

Introduction to Global Education

For teachers, teaching artists/writers, administrators, cultural educators

What is global education, and how does it improve student learning? In this workshop, we introduce the principles and benefits of global education and international collaboration. We also take teachers step-by-step through a lesson plan centered on an international story exchange.

.

Creating and Exchanging Virtual Reality Stories

For teachers, teaching artists/writers, administrators, cultural educators

As virtual reality technology becomes more and more accessible and inexpensive, students can now create and share immersive tours of their schools and daily lives. Learn how to plan, film, edit, and share virtual reality stories with international partners, and let your students visit faraway places without leaving home!

.

Crafting Life Stories with Writing and Art

For teachers, teaching artists/writers, administrators, cultural educators

When students write the stories of their lives and share them with international partners, they become primary sources for each other’s learning. The stories they exchange can subvert the biased narratives that may exist about other cultures and give students an authentic view of how their peers live in other countries and cultures. This workshop will take you through a lesson plan that leads students in writing, illustrating, sharing, and analyzing their original life stories.

.

Assessing and Documenting Student Learning in Global Education

For teachers, teaching artists/writers, administrators, cultural educators

Assessment is crucial to a teacher’s understanding of what and how students are learning about global competence. Documentation of that assessment is often necessary, not just for teacher purposes, but for district evaluations and funder requirements. In this workshop we’ll provide you with tools for simple, effective assessment of the sometimes complex concepts involved in global education, and we’ll teach you how to use those tools with your students without creating “test anxiety” by presenting them as creative activities or games.
